Eddie Ellis
Director of Bands
Mr. Eddie Ellis attended Morris Brown College where he received a Bachelors of Arts degree in Music Education. He later attended Georgia State University where he received his Master's in Music Education. His former teachers were Dr. Alfred D. Wyatt, Mr. Cleopas R. Johnson, Mr. William Revere, Mr. Henry Gilliam, Dr. G. Johnson Hubert, Mr. Paul Mitchell and Mr. William "Bill" Braynon. Mr. Ellis has also done further studies at Florida State University, Cinncinati Conservatory, West Georgia University, and the University of Texas.
He was also a member of the Eighth United States Army Band, Seoul, Korea. He taught in the Dekalb County School System serving as Director of Bands at Ronald E. McNair High School for 17 years. Under his direction the McNair Marching, Symphonic, and Jazz Bands received consistent Superior and Excellent ratings at District, State, and National Band competitions. In 1996 Mr. Ellis returned to his Alma Mater, Morris Brown College, after the death of his former teacher Mr. Cleopas R. Johnson.
The Morris Brown Symphonic and Marching Bands performed for numerous events as well as being featured in the hit movie "Drumline". In 2004, Mr. Ellis succeded Mr. Ronald Sargeant, who had been Director of Bands at SCSU for 28 years. Since 2004 the band has continued to receive local, state, and national recognition.
