John P. Robinson is currently the Professor of Music (Double Reeds) and Assistant Director of Bands at South Carolina State University. He was previously the Assistant Professor of Woodwinds at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, where he was an active band staff member of the “Marching 100” from 2004-2009. Mr. Robinson has conducted double reed clinics, workshops, and master-classes in states of Georgia, Florida and South Carolina. He founded and coordinated the semi-annual artist performance symposium that gave students the opportunity to perform on the stage with guest artists abroad in 2006 and 2008.
Mr. Robinson earned his Bachelor’s degree in Music Education and Master’s degree in Woodwind Performance from the University of Georgia. He is currently working on his DMA in Oboe Performance and has received a certification in Early Music from Florida State University. He has studied Oboe with Marty Hebert, Dwight Manning, Harry Sargous, Nancy Ambrose King, and Eric Ohlsson of FSU; Clarinet with John Livingood, John Daniels, and Dannene Drummond; and bassoon with William Davis and Chris Schaub. He has performed with numerous bands and orchestras to include the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra and the Midland Symphony. Mr. Robinson is an active member of the IDRS, MENC, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia fraternity of America Inc. and ICA, where he was invited to be the guest conductor of the ICA clarinet sight-reading choir in the Spring of 2007. He has actively participated and performed in master-classes with renowned artist such as John Mack and Joseph Robinson. Mr. Robinson was also extended an invitation to perform with the American Wind Symphony and teach oboe abroad in Brazil in 2003.
