Steven J. Reid

Instructor of Music/ Upper Brass

Steven J. Reid, originally from Brooklyn , New York enjoys a duel career as a performer and educator. Mr. Reid earned a Bachelor of Music from Mannes College of Music (NYC). His principal teachers include Mark Gould (NY Metropolitan Opera Orchestra), Raymond Mase (American Brass Quintet), John Ware and William Vacciano (NY Philharmonic Orchestra). Mr. Reid received a Masters in Music Theory from the University of South Carolina . He is currently ABD for Doctor of Musical Arts from American Conservatory of Music ( Chicago ). Mr. Reid has the duel capacity of Director of Bands as well as Professor of Music at several institutions including Columbia University (NYC), Lincoln University (PA) and Claflin University (SC), as well as secondary institutions of the NYC public school system, and Camden Military Academy (SC).

As a performer Mr. Reid has extensive experience a member of Brooklyn Philharmonic (Lukas Foss, David Amram, conductors), South Carolina Philharmonic (Nicholas Smith, conductor). In addition he has performed in numerous Broadway productions including, Baby, The Rink (Chita Rivera, Liza Minelli), Tap Dance Kid (Alfonso Ribeiro), Grind (Ben Vereen), Three Musketeers, The Mystery of Edwin Drood and The Wind in the Willows and performed in various venues with numerous celebrities in the entertainment industry.

Currently Steven Reid is Assistant Director of Bands and Instructor of Trumpet at South Carolina University with additional instruction in Music Theory, Ear Training, Music Literature, Scoring and Arranging.

His professional affiliations include Music Educators National Conference, South Carolina Band Directors Association, Musicians Union Local 802 (NYC), International Trumpet Guild, Society for Music Theory, and Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity.
